Gemotions

The thud against the fence was the first sign. Then, the frantic barking. Sarah groaned, pulling the covers over her head, wishing for a silent morning. Sunlight sliced through the blinds, painting stripes across her bedroom floor. She knew what awaited her.

He was there, the golden retriever from next door, tail wagging, tongue lolling, a furry escape artist grinning at his latest conquest: her carefully cultivated rose bushes. She dragged herself out of bed, each movement heavy.

“Buddy, really?” she sighed, already knowing the futility of the question. He woofed, as if in agreement. She trudged outside, gathering the dog, all the while muttering about how she just wanted one day off.
